Vancouver Canucks Preview

The Canucks recently broke their two-game skid when they defeated the Florida Panthers 5-3. They were able to match the Panthers’ two goals in the third period, which helped sustain their lead that they had early on. They will have a much better matchup here, as the Panthers have had their struggles already winning games.

Even though the Canucks are barely above .500, they are currently second in the Pacific Division behind the Las Vegas Golden Knights. It might take some time to catch them, as they are currently undefeated through six games. Continuing their momentum will be key, as they need to improve in various areas.

Their offense has been pretty good, as they average 4.00 goals a game. Their defense is respectable, as they allow their opponents to average 2.60 against them. If they can maintain that differential, this would benefit their cause at winning more games.

Despite scoring a good amount of goals a game, they are only getting up 26.8 shots a game. Furthermore, they are allowing their opponents too many opportunities, at 36.2 shots a game. This should be a priority for them moving forward to swap these averages around.

Nashville Predators Preview

The Predators have won their last two games heading into this matchup. Their previous win was a 5-1 outing over the San Jose Sharks, which showcased their ability to have an outburst on offense. However, this was their easiest win of the season and they must be prepared for this matchup.

Their recent wins have allowed them to hold down the fourth spot in the Central Division. They have a long way to go if they are trying to climb to the top, as the Colorado Avalanche (5-0) are leading the division and have yet to lose a game.

The Predators have been solid on offense at 3.00 goals a game. Their defense has only allowed 2.67 goals a game, but they should still look to be more aggressive on offense. Separating this point differential would be in their best interest if they want find success in close battles.

The Predators have amassed 34.5 shot attempts per game, while allowing their opponents to get off 28.8. This is another margin they should work on, especially against aggressive shooting teams. Being more aggressive on offense could lead to more scoring opportunities and chances of winning close games.
