Arizona Diamondbacks Preview

The Diamondbacks have won three out of their last five games, with a recent victory in game two against the Cardinals. This was an enormous victory, as they demolished the Cardinals 14-1 with a grand slam in the fifth inning to add fuel to the fire.

They will have Jordan Montgomery (1-0) on the mound to start this matchup, which bodes well for their chances at success. He currently has an ERA of 1.50 and a WHIP of 0.67.

Keel Marte continues to improve each game and his offense will be key. He leads them with five home runs and a batting average at .324.

The Diamondbacks are getting .261 at the plate, which is a bit stronger than the Cardinals’ batting average. They are getting on base with a percentage at .339 and have a slugging percentage at .410, which are both appealing on this head-to-head.

On defense, they do not have a lot of breathing room by allowing their opponents to average .252 at the plate. They also have a team ERA at 3.90, which shows how important Montgomery will be on the mound.

St. Louis Cardinals Preview

The Cardinals have lost four out of their last five matchups, but were able to find success in game one. This was a 5-3 triumph, where Nolan Gorman ended a drought with a two-run homer in the bottom of the month to cap off the game.

Kyle Gibson (1-2) has an opportunity to make an impact on the mound. He has an ERA at 5.04 and a WHIP at 1.20, which means he has some work to do if they want a shot at winning.

Masyn Winn has been a great prospect for stimulating their offense. He currently leads them with a batting average at .313 and has a slugging percentage at .422.

The Cardinals have a paltry batting average at .218 and need to find success more often here. They are on base with a .301 percentage and have a slugging percentage at .336, which shows they need help offensively.

Defensively, they are allowing teams to average .259 at the plate and is a negative ratio compared to their offense. They also have an ERA at 4.25, which needs improvement.
