We’re thrilled to announce the hiring of our new Chief Marketing Officer here at ZenSports — Mark Saldana! I originally met Mark back in 2013 when my last startup, Reesio, was going through 500 Startups. He was the Marketing Manager for 500 Startups back then, and I remember him being a total hustler when it came to getting the word out there and promoting the 500 brand.
Fast forward to the present, and we have a ton of marketing initiatives that we have slated for 2020 and beyond to help continue growing ZenSports, especially on the paid marketing side. Up to this point, all of our growth here at ZenSports has been via word of mouth and in continuing to grow the betting volume and retention of our existing customer base. Paid marketing is the next step in the journey of continuing our fast-paced growth, and so we began the search for a Chief Marketing Officer about a month ago.
About the same time last month that we opened up our new CMO role, I stumbled across a Facebook post from Mark that he was looking for a new career opportunity. I reached out to him to see if he’d be interested in joining ZenSports as our new CMO, and I could tell after our first conversation that Mark was the absolute right culture fit for ZenSports — hustler mentality, super personable, great energy, and very numbers/metrics driven.
Of course, he is also an experienced marketer with more than 10 years of experience creating effective marketing campaigns that attract and delight customers. In addition to his aforementioned experience at 500 Startups, he also worked at Box and several other tech companies in the consumer and insurance space. He has deep expertise with affiliate marketing, content, SEO, social, and product marketing — all key channels for us as we ramp up our growth here at ZenSports.
Mark officially joined on February 3rd, quickly got up to speed on everything that we’re doing here at ZenSports, and is off and running implementing several new marketing initiatives. It’s clear already to everyone in the company that he’s going to be a great hire for us.
