Wofford Terriers Preview

The Terriers narrowly escaped the High Point Panthers in a 99-98 win recently. Corey Tripp iced the game when he sank both free throws with under two seconds remaining on the clock.

They are currently leading in the Southern conference, but have a rough road ahead of them. They had a coaching change in the middle of the season last year and finished 17-16 overall (8-10 in Southern). Under new coach Dwight Perry, the Terriers hope to take a new step forward.

They have looked great so far, but must put that momentum to good use against a top-10 team in the country. Their offense has averaged 92.0 points per game, ranking 34th in the nation. Their efficiency with the ball has also been appealing, with a rating of 122.7 and ranking 49th.

Their defense will be tested, especially against a good offense by the Vols. They have allowed 83.0 points per game, which ranks 321st, and has come against arguably much weaker competition. Their efficiency is much to be desired with a rating of 110.7 and ranks 300th.

Tennessee Volunteers Preview

The Volunteers recently secured their second win of the season, with a 80-70 performance over the Wisconsin Badgers. Dalton Knecht led the Vols in scoring with 24 points and scored late to help the team carry over with the win.

First in the SEC, the Vols are aiming to improve from last season (11-7, fourth in SEC). Their current roster is just as appealing as any top-10 in the nation, especially with a handful of returning players to make a potential strong tournament push. However, they must continue to shoot well from the field and potentially not rely as much offensively on Knecht (20.5 PPG).

They are averaging 80.0 points per game (145th), but their efficiency on the scoring side is somewhat better with a rating of 114.3 (111th). Their averages would likely be higher, but they have one of the toughest strengths of schedules coming up this season (with a good test from Wisconsin already).

Their defense has been a key factor in their success, as they allow opponents to average 56.0 points per game (23rd). Their ability to hold teams to low scoring outputs has an efficiency rating of 80.0 (37th). This will be another interesting opportunity to see if their defense can hold Wofford below their scoring point total.
