Where: Nissan Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah

Virginia Cavaliers Preview

The Cavaliers finished 3-7 in the ACC last year, but they hope to make improvements this season. They went 1-6 during conference play, which does not bode well looking into this year.

They averaged 16.7 points per game and had 167 total points, in addition to 20 touchdowns. Tony Muskett earns the start at quarterback after previously having Brennan Armstrong, who transferred to NC State.

Head coach Tony Elliot will be adjusting to his newer offense and the second year of his coaching career at Virginia. He has a lot on his plate to think about, especially since the Cavaliers were only putting up the eighth lowest amount of points in the nation and only moving an average of five yards per play.

Their defense was nothing to brag about either, as they barely made a mark outside the top 40 in overall success rate. With their smaller size and inability to slow down the running game, this could be trouble quite quickly.

Tennessee Volunteers Preview

The Volunteers had an incredible season last year, finishing 11-2 and as the sixth ranked team in the nation. They were arguably the third best team, according to record, in the SEC behind the best teams in the nation such as Alabama and Georgia.

They averaged 46.1 points per game, as they scored a total of 599 points and 79 touchdowns. However, they have a new face at quarterback in Joe Milton.

Milton joined the Vols last season after transferring from the University of Michigan. But, he did not earn the start at quarterback since the Vols had a future NFL player, Hendon Hooker.

As the Volunteers look to put together the pieces for their offense this season, it may not matter a lot against a considerably weaker Cavaliers team for how they choose to do it. The Vols have a strong return on both sides of the ball, making them a huge threat.

Virginia Cavaliers: +2000

Tennessee Volunteers: -4700

Spread: -28 (-110)

Totals: Over 56 (-110), Under 56 (-110)

The Volunteers aim to play quick and efficient, as they made the top 10 last season in seconds per play category. They are essentially testing out Milton and will likely put his abilities to use in this task to give him confidence moving forward. Tennesse went 9-3 against the spread last year, while the Cavaliers were 4-6 against the spread.
