Tennessee Volunteers Preview

The Volunteers had a successful opening night with a 80-42 showing against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. The Vols were one point shy in the first half of tying the total amount of points the Golden Eagles had the entire game.

They have a rough road ahead of them, as the SEC has a handful of quality teams that can give the Vols a test. Winning matchups like these help strengthen their confidence and get them in shape for tougher matchups, but they must also excel on both ends of the floor.

After putting up 80.0 points, they ranked 156th in the nation. Their efficiency on offense is a little more appealing with a rating of 115.9 and ranking 122nd. This likely dropped some in the second half of when they slacked off after being up big.

The same idea applies to their defense, as they allowed 42.0 points (6th) and were efficient with a rating of 60.9 (14th). Assuming they keep these up, they will arguably be the best team in the SEC.

Wisconsin Badgers Preview

The Badgers did not let their foot off of the gas in their 105-76 victory over the Arkansas State Red Wolves. This was an offensive shootout, especially since the game was 56-41 at the half. They take their hot hand into this matchup looking for the upset.

They have a slight lead in the Big Ten conference, but a win against a top-10 opponent would not only boost their resume but increase their outlook on the season. Last year, the Badgers finished with a 20-11 record (9-11 in Big Ten) and barely won games with 65.3 points per game.

There is no way they can sustain their 105.0 points per game (18th), but if they can keep their efficiency rating around 129.6 (45th), they will be in good shape. Against the Vols, this will be heavily tested, as the defense from the Red Wolves was nonexistent

Allowing 76.0 points (258th) from their opponents will not be ideal in the long run, but their efficiency is a little more appealing with a rating of 93.8 (174th). If they can hold the Vols to a lower-scoring affair and keep the pace slower, they have a great shot at success.
