Tennessee Volunteers Preview
The Volunteers have lost their last two games. However, a sense of panic is not needed as these were against two of the best teams in the country. Their recent defeat was a 69-60 showing against the former number one Kansas Jayhawks, while their previous defeat to that was against the current number one Purdue Boilermakers (71-67).
In the SEC, the Volunteers have a tough road ahead of them. But, they have a great shot at winning the conference if they are able to show they can handle tough matchups like this. Dalton Knecht continues to shine with 17.5 points per game and 44.0 percent shooting from the field.
Offensively, the Volunteers are averaging 73.7 points per game and shooting 40.7 percent from the field. They move the ball well to get scoring opportunities, with 13.7 assists each matchup. This will need to improve away from home if they want to get ahead of the Tar Heels.
On defense, they accumulate 38.0 rebounds with a handful coming by offensive. In addition, they add 4.7 blocks and 7.8 steals a game that can change the course of this battle.
North Carolina Tar Heels Preview
The Tar Heels were able to bounce back after their first loss of the season to the Villanova Wildcats. Their event win was a 87-72 showing over the 20th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks, with RJ Davis matching his career-high of 30 points.
They will be in the mix of ACC teams that can win the conference this year, as there are plenty of quality contenders to take over. If Davis can continue his dominance (18.2 PPG) at the point, they should have a compelling offense to win games.
The Tar Heels produce 85.3 points per game on 46.5 percent shooting on the court. They move the ball similar to the Vols, as they average 13.5 assists each matchup. This could turn into a high-scoring game if both teams are clicking offensively.
Their defense has also been steady, as they allow opposing teams to average 69.0 points a game. With 40.5 rebounds, 4.8 blocks, and 5.3 steals each battle, they are capable of disrupting the flow of offense for the other team.
