We recapped our top five player prop bets earlier in the week, now let’s get straight to our best bets for game props. All odds are courtesy of Bovada.
Result of First Eagles Drive –
Punt +140
The Chiefs may lack the defense of the 49ers, but Andy Reid has more football acumen than Kyle Shanahan. You can bet any deep pass where an Eagles receiver hurries up the offense that Reid will whip out the challenge flag without blinking twice. That being said, this will be the first Super Bowl appearance for the majority of players on the Eagles roster and their first playoff game this season away from home. A short drive or a three-and-out would not be uncommon in this situation.
Chiefs to Record a First Quarter Shutout +330
Both teams combined have failed to top 10 total first quarter points in the last three Super Bowls. In fact, in each of the previous three, there has been one team that has failed to find the endzone in the first quarter. While a shutout is a stretch, it is entirely feasible. The Chiefs will have a game plan to stretch out their possessions and keep Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense off the field. When the Chiefs are on offense, expect Kansas City to execute quick screens and shuffle passes to negate the Eagles dangerous pass rush. There’s good reason to believe the Chiefs will dominate the game clock, especially if their defense forces the Eagles to punt early.
Total 4th Down Conversions – Chiefs
Over 0.5 -135
Andy Reid has proven he is not conservative in many situations. A 4th-and-1 or a 4th-and-short won’t faze the Super Bowl winning coach. And what team over the past few seasons has drawn up some of the most head-scratching, yet creative plays in these certain situations. The Chiefs will go for multiple 4th downs in this contest and you can bet they will succeed on at least one.
Result of First Chiefs Drive
FG Attempt +375
It will have been 3 weeks since Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain when he takes the field on Sunday. While the pain may be alleviated somewhat, he most likely will not be 100 percent. If that is the case, expect the same formation that dominated the play calling against the Chiefs – Mahomes in the shotgun position. While he can still scramble, he will be limited not only by his injury, but also by the Eagles fierce front seven. I expect the Chiefs to put together a solid game plan, but they may fall short of reaching the endzone. The Eagles defense rarely allows first drive TDs to opposite offenses. This is good value taking the field goal attempt.
First Offensive Play of the Game – Eagles
Run -125
Jalen Hurts may be a candidate for the MVP award, but against a Chiefs defense that struggles against the run, look for one of the top rushing offenses to capitalize. If the Eagles can establish the run game early, which they will look to do, that will also take the pressure off Hurts, just like in the past two postseason games. Miles Sanders or Kenneth Gainwell should get the first touch of the game here.
