Philadelphia Phillies Preview

The Phillies are 3-2 in their last five games and have had a tough series so far against the Cardinals. They were able to win game one, which ended 5-3 in extra innings.

They have a few players to keep an eye on offensively. Bruce Harper leads them with three home runs and seven RBI’s so far, while Brandon Marsh leads them at the plate with a batting average at .344 and slugging percentage at .625.

Aaron Nola will get the start for game three on the mound and is 1-1 thus far into the season. In 10.0 innings pitched, he has earned an ERA of 5.40 and a WHIP of 1.80

The Phillies are essentially breaking even at the plate, as they have a batting average at .235 and allow their opponents to have .233. Their slugging percentage is at .354, which shows they are solid offensively.

Their defense has an ERA of 4.00 and a WHIP of 1.20. If their offense struggles, their defense might not be enough to hold off other teams.

St. Louis Cardinals Preview

The Cardinals have also gone 3-2 in their last five games. They were able to get back on track with a recent 3-0 victory over the Phillies in game two, where starting pitcher Sonny Gray made his debut and helped the Cardinals perform a shutout.

Nolan Gorman has earned three home runs and eight RBI’s in 12 games on the season. Brendan Donovan leads them with a batting average of .250, has an on base percentage at .388, and a slugging percentage at .425. They will need more output offensively from other players to help.

Lance Lynn is their starting pitcher and has completed 8.2 innings so far. He has an ERA of 4.15 and a WHIP of 1.62. If he can keep the Phillies down in the first half of the game, they have a good shot at victory.

Their batting average is a bit lacking at .218 and they allow their opponents to average .265. This is not an ideal ratio to have at the plate. They will need to steadily score runs or need an outburst to likely stay one step ahead of the Phillies.
