Minnesota Wild Preview

The Wild were able to snap their previous seven-game losing streak when they defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-1. This was perfect timing for the win, as they acquired a new coach (John Hynes) the day before that game. Both Joel Eriksson Ek and Frederick Gaudreau landed goals in the opening period of play to help keep them ahead.

During their recent losing streak, the Wild only scored three goals twice and the rest of the time they barely made it to that. In six of the seven games, they gave up three or more goals and were unable to cover ground in many of these situations. This is a good reason why they are seventh in the Central Division.

The Wild score 2.95 goals on 31.1 shot attempts each matchup. Joel Eriksson Ek leads the Wild in goals scored this season at 11. Despite having 239 penalty minutes, they have a power play percentage at 16.0, which is slightly lower than the Predators.

Their defense will be tested once again, as they have been allowing opponents to average 3.80 goals and take 30.6 shots each game. Their penalty kill percentage is a bit lacking in comparison to the Predators, coming in at 68.5, which might play a role.

Nashville Predators Preview

The Predators are currently on a six-game win streak heading into this matchup at home. Their previous success was a 3-2 overtime performance over the Pittsburgh Penguins, with Filip Forsberg scoring the game winning goal just 14 seconds into overtime play.

They continue to improve each game and they have done a great job on both sides of the puck. They are currently holding down the fifth spot in the Central Division, but their momentum could help change this heading into next month.

The Predators are getting 3.33 goals a game on 31.0 shots. Forsberg leads the team in scoring with 12 goals netted so far. They also showcase a power play percentage at 20.0, which is key here over the Wild.

They are allowing 3.14 goals a game and are keeping teams to 30.3 shots. While it is not the best in the league, their penalty kill percentage of 73.5 might be enough to handle the Wild in those situations.
