Memphis Grizzlies Preview
The Grizzlies return to action after a 137-116 defeat against the Golden State Warriors. The game was close until the second half, where the Warriors unleashed a 40-point third quarter and consistently stayed ahead. GG Jackson impressed with 35 points.
Desmond Bane, who has averaged 23.9 points per game this season, is doubtful for this matchup due to a sore back. He only had six points in 24 minutes of action against the Warriors.
The Grizzlies average 106.0 points per game and currently hold the worst spot in the rankings (30th). They also come in last with their offensive efficiency, with a rating of 107.4. Taking care of the basketball and finding scoring opportunities is not their strong suit.
Defensively they are solid, as they give up 112.8 points per game and rank 12th. Creating key defensive possessions, they rank 11th in efficiency with a rating of 114.2. This will be the biggest difference in this game.
San Antonio Spurs Preview
The Spurs have lost four out of their last five battles, with a 113-107 loss in their most recent game to the Dallas Mavericks. Tre Jones had 22 points and nine assists, but the Spurs still had issues defending down the stretch.
Jones leads the team with 6.1 assists a game, while rookie Victor Wembanyama leads with 20.7 points and 10.4 rebounds a game. Despite their impressive performances, they will need a complete unit to take care of the Grizzlies.
The Spurs put up 112.3 points per game and rank 21st in the league. Their efficiency on this end of the floor is slightly better than the Grizzlies’ at 27th, with a rating of 110.4. This bodes well for their chances if they can take care of the basketball.
Their defense is a bit lacking in comparison, as they allow 119.7 points per game and rank 25th. They also have a rank of 23rd for their efficiency on the defensive end, with a rating of 117.7.
If they fail to step up their defense, this could be an ugly matchup for them. To put this in perspective, the Grizzlies have won in both times they have met with the Spurs, with their last result being a 106-98 performance in January.
