Los Angeles Chargers Preview
The Chargers have gone 1-4 over their most recent five games. Their only win in this span was a 6-0 outing over the struggling New England Patriots. Their previous game was a 24-7 defeat to the Denver Broncos.
Their window of opportunity is closing fast to make the playoffs this year. After losing quarterback Justin Herbert to a season-ending finger surgery, the Chargers have little room for error. They are currently third in the AFC West and must win every game now, but the second-place Broncos will need to lose all of theirs too.
They are averaging the same amount of points on offense as they allow on defense. They are putting up 21.7 points a game, which ranks 16th and 17th in the league for the amount of points allowed on defense. This does not give them much room to operate, but at least they are breaking even in comparison to the Raiders.
Their starting quarterback position will likely be Easton Stick, who had a considerable amount of playing time against the Broncos last week. In that performance, he completed 54.2 percent of his passes and had 179 yards in the loss.
Las Vegas Raiders Preview
The Raiders are currently on a three-game losing streak and are 2-3 over their last five. Their most recent defeat was one of the ugliest in 16 years in the NFL, which was a 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
They are tied with the Chargers in the division, which makes this an appealing prospect for them to gain a slight edge for playoff hopes. However, with the Raiders having issues finding a consistent starting quarterback, their offense continues to struggle.
The Raiders are averaging 15.5 points a game, which puts them at 28th in the league. Their defense has allowed 19.9 points a game and ranks ninth. This has arguably kept them within reach in a handful of games.
Aidan O’Connell (4 TD, 7 INT) gets the start once again for the Raiders. He currently has 1,365 yards, a pass completion rate at 63.8, and has a QBR of 31.1. Against a quarterback that will be earning his first start of the season, he could have a slight edge.
