Green Bay Packers Preview
The Packers are 2-3 over their last five games and are coming off a 23-20 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Jordan Love added a touchdown late with about two minutes remaining in the game to help seal it.
They are third in the NFC North and are quite a handful back from the leading Lions. However, they still have an opportunity to continue climbing for Wild Card contention later in the season and a win here would be icing on the cake.
The Lions are essentially canceling out any progress on the field offensively and relying heavily on their defense. They are averaging 20.2 points a game and allowing the exact same amount, which ranks 20th and 10th in the league, respectively.
Love (16 TD, 10 INT) has 2,331 yards and recently set a career high for passing yards in a game with 322 against the Charges last Sunday. His QBR is at 47.3, which ranks 22nd in the league.
Detroit Lions Preview
The Lions have found success in their last three games, with their recent success showing a 31-26 battle against the Chicago Bears. This was an ugly win, as the Lions were down by as many as 12 points before storming back in the fourth quarter with 17 points.
Their recent success has allowed them to stay on top of the NFC North. While they have been doing a great job scoring, their defense has not been as strong. Assuming they continue to perform well on offense, it might be enough to carry them through the rest of the year.
The Lions average 27.2 points per game, ranking sixth in the league. On defense, they are allowing opposing teams to average 22.9 points a game, which ranks 22nd. This margin is tight and it could make a difference in this matchup if they are unable to defend well.
Jared Goff (16 TD, 8 INT) was starting to get boos from the home crowd during his performance against the Bears last Sunday when he arguably played his worst all season (2 TD, 3 INT). He has earned 2,743 yards and has a QBR of 64.0, ranking him seventh in the league.
