An excellent NFL showdown is on the horizon for Tennessee bettors. This betting opportunity is between the Detroit Lions and the defending NFL Champions, Kansas City Chiefs.

Detroit Lions Preview

The Lions are coming off of a 9-8 season out of the NFC North and are looking to impress. They will have a tough opening matchup, especially since they are taking on the defending NFL Champions on the road to open their season.

Looking at last year’s stats, they averaged 26.6 points per game and allowed 25.1. In preseason play this year, they averaged 18 and gave up 19.3 each game. The rosters are essentially the same, so this does not bode well for their chances.

They did make some roster adjustments around draft time. They traded D’Andre Smith and were able to pick Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He was a standout running back for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Gibbs’ abilities will be put to the test early and often as the Lions will make him a primary focus. Reports are estimating that he will reach 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving this year.

Kansas City Chiefs Preview

The Chiefs will begin their season fresh off of a NFL Championship. They finished 14-3 and were first in the AFC West, which is something they can easily do again.

Their magical run last year showed that they averaged 29.2 points per game and allowed 21.7. For preseason games to start this year, they averaged 31.6 and allowed 22.6. This could be a taste of what is yet to happen.

The Chiefs are probably without tight end Travis Kelce, as he hyperextended his knee in a recent practice. He is currently a game-time decision. If he does not play, this changes the dynamic of the offense, as Noah Gray will get the start and the offense will make plays through a variety of players.

Defensive Tackle Chris Jones is still not with the team per reports. He is holding out his contract and is waiting on a better deal from the Chiefs. This could also impact the game, as he was a pivotal player on defense last year for their title run.

The Chiefs will have to make some adjustments on offense to get the job done, but this is a team that has plenty of experience and does not sweat the small stuff. The Lions will make things interesting with their offense and a new addition from Gibbs, which would give them a spark to the season.
