Tennessee Baseball Introduction

The state of Tennessee has a vast history of baseball. Around the 1840’s, Tennessee was a common place to engage in baseball on a popular field, known as Edgefield in Nashville.

A lot of great baseball players have come from Tennessee, either born and raised or they attended college in the state. Some famous Tennessee baseball players include Mookie Betts, Nick Senzel, Todd Helton, and Jordan Beck.

As for professional teams in the state, you can check out a handful of the Minor League Baseball teams that are affiliated with other MLB teams, although they are not available for baseball betting. These teams include:

  • Chattanooga Lookouts (Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds)
  • Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A affiliate of St. Louis Cardinals)
  • Nashville Sounds (Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers)
  • Tennessee Smokies (Double-A affiliate of Chicago Cubs)

Different Types of Baseball Bets

There are various baseball bet types to suit any bettor no matter their experience. If you are new to Tennessee baseball betting, these may sound confusing at first. Check out how these baseball bet types work.

Moneyline Bets

Moneyline bets are the simplest bet to understand. All you have to worry about is picking which team you think is going to win the game.

The numbers may look a little confusing. Check out an example of a moneyline below.

St. Louis Cardinals: -115

Chicago Cubs: +105

The Cardinals are considered the favorite, since they have the minus (-) sign in front of their number. This means for every $115 you wager on them to win, you will earn $100 if that is correct plus your original $115 wager.

As for the Cubs, they are considered the underdog, based on their plus (+) sign in front of their number. This means for every $100 you wager on them to win, you will earn $105 if they do, on top of your original stake.

Run Line Bets

The run line is a fancy term in baseball referring to the spread. This means you are betting on how many runs a team will win or lose by.

Using the example from the moneyline, you can see the odds below. Understanding how to read the moneyline is important to help you read other betting options.

St. Louis Cardinals: -1.5 (-110)

Chicago Cubs: +1.5 (-110)

If you choose the Cardinals run line of -1.5, this means you are betting on them to win by at least two or more runs. The -110 moneyline next to it simply means how much the bet will be worth to you ($110 bet on the run line plus your original stake if the bet becomes true).

Looking at the Cubs, they have a run line of +1.5. They must either lose by no more than two runs or win the game outright for the bet to pay out.

Futures Bets

Futures bets are wagers you can place on a future event, as the name suggests. These could be early bets at the start of the season, for example, for whichever team you think will win the World Series in MLB. These will use a moneyline, so it is crucial you know how to read those.

Player Prop Bets

Player prop bets are considered “fun” bets because these sometimes do not directly affect the outcome of the game. Instead, these are scenarios you can bet on and it might have a slight impact on the game.

For example, here is a player prop bet to look over. This is for a pitcher on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Example Strikeout Props for Jordan Montgomery

Over/Under: 5.5

All this means is whether or not you believe Montgomery will record five (more or less) strikeouts during his time on the mound for the game.

As you can see, there are plenty of possibilities for pitchers and batters to record certain stats. These include home runs, RBI’s, and even strikeouts. You have the possibility to bet on these stats with player props.

Parlay Bets

Parlays are a great way to maximize your betting power with as little investment as possible. You simply pick a combination, a minimum of two bet types, on a betting slip that you think will come true.

These could be a mixture of prop bets, moneylines, or any other baseball bet types. You can keep it simple and choose all moneylines for the day of games if you want.

For example, you could build a parlay each day. You could pick the Cardinals to win, a team from another division to win, and then a player prop all within the same betting slip.

However, all of the betting options you have chosen must come true in order for the parlay to pay out. If any of your bets do not work out, you lose everything, but the reward for getting them all correct will pay out more.
