Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview
The Buccaneers have gone 4-1 in their last five games heading into this one. Their most recent success was a stunning 32-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, which sent home one of the favorites to have a shot at the Super Bowl.
Despite their only one loss in their last five games, they have kept a healthy margin of victory in their wins. They have been winning games by nine points or more and keeping teams to less than 20 points per game.
The Bucs have been averaging 20.5 points per game, which ranked 20th in the league. On defense, they are allowing opponents to average 19.1 points each game, ranking seventh in the league. This does not offer a lot of breathing room unless they can improve offensively.
Baker Mayfield (28 TD, 10 INT) has had an appealing season and will get another opportunity to help push them along. He has put up 4,044 total yards, a 64.3 percent completion rate, and has a QBR of 54.4 that puts him 18th in the league.
Detroit Lions Preview
The Lions secured their first playoff win in a 32-year gap with their most recent victory. This was a 24-23 triumph against the Los Angeles Rams, which ironically had previous Lions starting quarterback Matthew Stafford at play.
They are currently on a two-game win streak and have also gone 4-1 in their last five matchups. They have had some close calls lately, with two games over their last five that ended by a one point margin. One of those one point margins turned out to be a 20-19 defeat against the Dallas Cowboys a few games back, which shows they can slow down excellent offensive teams.
The Lions are averaging 27.1 points per game and rank fifth in the league for their effort. Defensively, they are allowing 23.2 points from opposing teams and rank 23rd overall. This at least offers some breathing room in each game.
Jared Goff (30 TD, 12 INT) has established great numbers this season and has an opportunity to land another quality win. He has earned 4,575 total yards, has a pass completion rate of 67.3, and ranks 11th in the league with his QBR of 60.3.
