Memphis Tigers Preview

The Tigers are currently on a two-game losing skid and need to break the cycle. Their most recent defeat was an 80-77 showing against the Ole Miss Rebels. The Tigers actually had a 37-30 lead at the half, but gave up 50 in the second and could not match the Rebels offensively.

David Jones leads the Tigers in points (18.4) and rebounds (6.3) per game. He is shooting 47.8 percent from the field and is a dominant factor in their plans on offense.

The Tigers are 5-1 when scoring 70 or more points and 3-0 in games when scoring over 80. They are currently averaging 78.7 points each game and landing 45.2 percent of their shots, as well as getting 13.2 assists per matchup.

They are allowing teams to hang close to them on defense, as opponents are getting 73.1 points on them per game. However, they are appealing with 5.6 blocks and 8.9 steals that should pose a threat to the Rams since it gives the Tigers additional scoring chances.

VCU Rams Preview

The Rams are 2-3 in their last five matchups. In their previous game, they were defeated 63-60 by the Norfolk State Spartans. The major differences in the game were the Spartans shooting 42.6 percent from the field, whereas the Rams connected on just 36.2 percent of their shots, and the Rams having 17 turnovers.

In their three recent losses, they have lost by four points or less. Max Shulga leads them in scoring with 16.0 points per game and will be pivotal in this matchup.

They are putting up 68.0 points a game and shooting 44.1 percent from the floor. When scoring over 70 points, they are 3-0 this year. They also contribute 12.5 assists, which is on par with the Tigers.

The Rams defense is slowing teams to 64.6 points a game. They have been able to alter some shots with 5.5 blocks and create additional scoring opportunities after picking up 5.5 steals a game. They will either need to pick up their tempo offensively or slow the pace of the game overall to keep the Tigers from turning loose.
