Our Predictions for UFC 261

After meeting nine months ago in UFC 251, where Kamaru Usman defeated Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision, the two welterweight fighters will meet this Saturday. In this rematch, Usman, the current welterweight champion, will again defend his title against Masvidal – the fourth-ranked fight in the same weight class.

With a perfect 13-0 record in the UFC, Usman is undoubtedly the superior talent. Since claiming the match against Masvidal in July, Usman last fought on February 13, 2021, where he defeated Gilbert Burns via KO/TKO. With a 47 percent takedown accuracy rate, Usman averages 4.66 significant strikes per minute and an accuracy rate of 54 percent. He hasn’t lost an MMA fight since 2013, recording 17 straight victories in the process.

Masvidal was a last-minute addition to his first bout with Usman after Gilbert Burns was forced to drop out due to CoVid-19 protocols. With only six days’ notice, Masvidal held his own in the match before the judges unanimously sided with Usman as the victor.

He’s known as a fierce striker, averaging 4.20 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy rate of 47 percent. Before squaring off against Usman, Masvidal was riding on a three-fight win streak.

Prediction: Usman via decision. Expect this to be a long and exciting fight that ends in a victory for Usman.
