NFL Week 8: Best Bets ATS

I didn’t get a chance to publish my Best Bets last week, but I was 4-1 in my picks. I had the Giants +3, Bengals +6, Bucs -12.5, and Seahawks +5. My only loss was Kansas City -4.5, and they got slaughtered by the Titans, so we won’t talk about that.

Let’s continue the winning streak. Here are the Best Bets ATS for Week 8:

Colts +1.5 over Titans

There’s always that one spread that leaves you scratching your head when the lines open every week. After all, how could a team like the 3-4 Colts only stand as +1.5 underdogs to the Titans, who just defeated both teams featured in last year’s AFC Championship game between the Bills and the Chiefs? Well, the Titans are for real – except this week they will fall flat. Right now, the public is pounding Tennessee while the sharps are silently siding with the Colts. Since their Week 3 matchup when Tennessee defeated Indy 25-16, the Colts have won 3 out of 4 games, with their only loss coming in OT on the road against the Ravens. This is a much better Indianapolis squad than the first time these two teams met – and a much healthier one. Don’t fall victim to the public. Side with the home underdog to win outright.

Browns -3.5 over Steelers

Although the Browns still haven’t announced whether Baker Mayfield or Case Keenum will start at QB for this hotly contested matchup between two division rivals, Cleveland is still the superior team against a regressing Steelers squad. Big Ben has looked every bit the shell of his former self this season, and retirement may not be too far away in his future. The Browns impose a stellar defense that should keep Pittsburgh’s offense at bay for the contest. Cleveland should also execute their dangerous run game as RB Nick Chubb is expected back for this game after missing the previous 2 with an injury. I’m usually hesitant when the spread is 3.5 instead of 3 in division matchups since it could quickly come down to the last possession. However, I believe the Browns should cruise to victory by a touchdown or greater.

Panthers +3 over Falcons

After getting blown out by the Giants in a game where QB Sam Darnold was benched for ineffectiveness, you can bet Carolina will be itching to get back on the field to silence their critics. Fortunately for them, they have a favorable matchup against the Falcons, who, despite their 3-3 record, have yet to impress with a signature win this season. They needed a last-second field goal to defeat the Giants and the Dolphins and almost dropped a contest in London to the lowly Jets. Even though they have had consecutive losing seasons, the public still remembers Atlanta representing the NFC in the Super Bowl back in 2016. This team has nowhere near the caliber of players it featured on that squad and has let bettors down consistently ever since they blew that game as well. This game may also come down to who has the last possession. Take the points.

Chargers -5.5 over Patriots

I love betting superior teams coming off of embarrassing losses, and this is one of them. The Chargers were demolished 34-6 in Week 6 against the Ravens, and you know that hasn’t sat well with them during the bye week. MVP-candidate Justin Herbert should be able to right the ship and get his offense back rolling against a Patriots team whose only wins have come against the Jets and the Texans. New England QB Mac Jones has shown promise in his rookie campaign, but he will have a tough time facing the Chargers front 7 led by Joey Bosa. Lay the points.

Bills -13.5 over Dolphins

I usually avoid laying double-digit points between division foes, but I have no trouble doing so in this case. The Bills are coming off their bye week with extra rest and will be anxious to put up points after losing on Monday Night Football in Week 6 to the Titans. Deciding to go for the win instead of tying up the score, the Bills were stuffed on 4th down with 12 seconds to go in Tennessee.

The last time these two teams met in Week 2, Buffalo was coming off another loss against the Steelers in their home opener. The results? The Bills crushed the Dolphins 35-0. Expect a similar outcome this time around, especially with the game in Buffalo.
